Weekly Devotional - Run the Race

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."

John 5:24

Like a runner with sore feet we often struggle to keep putting one foot in front of the other. During these moments, we are tempted to quit the race of faith and just got our own way. We want to pursue selfish pleasures that provide instant gratification instead of resisting temptation by trusting God. Often, the enemy of our souls knows that we are vulnerable and weak, weary and overwhelmed. He may try to lure us from the path of God's righteousness by throwing sinful comforts and addictive idols in front of us.

Running away from the struggles of life never provides relief for long, especially after we've experienced God's goodness. Temptations may appeal to our senses or offer an illusion of rest and comfort. But ultimately, they just distract us from what matters most. If we wan to run the race of faith we must be prepared to keep going. And when we can't we must trust God to carry us.

We already crossed the finish line from death to life. God will sustain us as we keep running

"Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step."

1 Corinthians 9:24-26
